Decathlon and the reconditioned electric bike, a great love story that begins

Through the German specialist Rebike of which it becomes a shareholder, Decathlon‘s investment shows its growing strength in reconditioned electric bikes.

We had already seen it this summer, hundreds of reconditioned electric bikes landed on the Decathlon site. They were all sold by the reconditioned VAE specialist, Rebike. More than a partnership between the two companies, it is a financial investment by the French group that has even taken place.

Thousands of reconditioned electric bikes

In a press release, Decathlon explains that it has invested in Rebike through its investment subsidiary Decathlon Pulse. “This investment aligns perfectly with our strategy of accelerating sustainable practices and places us at the forefront of the circular economy in the mobility sector», expresses Franck Vigo, CEO of Decathlon Pulse.

We do not know the amount invested, but Rebike indicates that it has raised 13 million euros from several players, including Decathlon which becomes a minority shareholder. Previously limited to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the German firm can now reach new countries, including France.

More than 2000 reconditioned VAEs already

As for Decathlon’s online platform, it now hosts nearly 2,000 reconditioned Rebike electric bikes. This completes an offer already provided by the French Boussole, Cyclink, Loewi… and its own branch Decathlon Second Life. These VAEs are not necessarily Decathlon products, but of all brands such as Cube, Kalkhoff or KTM, from rental services.
