The Cannes return has seen its highs, like Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, but it’s certainly had its fair share of lows, too, as some debuts haven’t quite hit the mark.
One of them is Idol, a new series starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp. Created by the writers behind HBO’s Euphoria, there were some high expectations for the show, but after a lackluster 5-minute standing ovation, reviews popped up on Rotten Tomatoes.
After 11 reviews, “Idol” has a 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Sure, the show might get some better scores when it’s released to more critics and general audiences, but it’s not a great start, to say the least. Critics blasted the show for being as vulgar as the industry it was trying to satirize. But, at least someone thought Lily-Rose Depp was solid, so there it is.
