mobilinanews (Qatar) – Jack Miller’s first action with the Ducati factory team ended nicely. This Australian racer won the second fastest result under Fabio Quartararo only 0.077 seconds behind. The question is, is it due to the development of DesmosediciGP21 or simply thanks to Miller’s way as a jockey?
That’s an interesting question in the Losail circuit paddock because basically the GP21 is no different from its predecessor, the GP20, which Miller coached last year in the Pramac Ducati satellite team.
As per the regulations, as a non-concession team, the Ducati engine is exactly the same as the 2020 spec to reduce the cost burden of the MotoGP team due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Only a few touches have been made by boss Luigi Dalli`Igna in the field of aerodynamics. The GP21 brings the new fairing Miller tried all day on the second day of testing yesterday.
Although small, Miller admits there is an increase in the results of these changes. Back and forth he tested the old and new fairings for comparative data.
“With the new one the bike is a little more stable, that’s all. We didn’t lose speed. This is a positive sign,” he said.
Even though he can squeeze Yamaha at the top level, Miller feels his job of correcting the GP21 is not finished. He hopes Ducati can provide even more in the follow-up tests on March 10-12, 2021. The main thing is the development of the new fairing set-up which brings its own stability compared to the specs of its predecessors.
“Already very happy with this result. The next day of testing we have to confirm whether there is still anything that can be developed or today’s results are the best we can have.”
The results of further tests will be important for Miller to achieve his first victory with Ducati. The reason is, the two opening competitions will take place at Losail at the end of March and early April.
It is very logical that he is aiming for victory because Losail is one of the tracks that has been suitable for the character of Ducati. Since 2006, Ducati has won 5 victories at Losail. The two most recent wins were won by Andrea Dovizioso in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
However, last year there was no MotoGP in Qatar due to the Coronavirus attack. (rnp)
