Jakarta –
Along with the commemoration of ‘No Bra Day’ which falls on October 13, the public is invited to work together to be aware of the risk of breast cancer, especially in women. It is often believed that this disease is triggered by the intake of certain foods, such as processed soybeans and chicken wings. Is that right?
Apparently, this assumption is just a myth. A specialist in internal medicine, consultant hemato-oncologist, Dr. Jeffry Beta Tenggara, SpPD-KHOM, confirmed that in fact soybean milk drinks do not actually cause breast cancer in women. The reason is, the estrogen contained in soybeans is different from animal estrogen.
“There are several factors in the science of compatibility. Actually, 70 to 80 percent of breast cancer is a type that is influenced by the hormone estrogen. Meanwhile, soybeans are a source of phytoestrogens,” he explained when contacted. detikcomThursday (12/10/2023).
“Just the structure is different between estrogen from plants and animal estrogen. But people know that soya contains estrogen, which means it can cause cancer,” added Dr. Jeffry.
Can Chicken Wings Trigger Cancer Risk?
Apart from processed soybeans, another food that is said to trigger breast cancer in women is chicken wings. However, Dr. Jeffry straightened out again, this assumption is not true.
“If we look at each one, actually all of them will be said to cause cancer. There is not a single food that has been proven to cause or cause cancer. I’m talking about foods that are normal for people to eat. Beef, chicken, fish. Of course I can’t say if “food like bat meat, dog meat, because there are several populations that eat meat like that,” he said.
“But if it is normal for people to eat beef, goat, chicken or fish, it has not been proven to cause cancer, let alone breast cancer,” said Dr. Jeffry.
He also explained that basically, the cause of cancer is never one factor. As a result, in fact, there has never been a perfect way to prevent cancer. However, if what you are looking for are risk factors, several things that might increase a person’s chances of developing breast cancer are obesity, smoking habits and alcohol consumption.
