Fact: gout affect both men and women

Yes, gout is more common in younger men than in young women. According to the Mayo Clinic, this is because women tend to have lower uric acid levels.

After menopause, however, women’s uric acid levels approach those of men’s and men’s and women’s uric acid levels become slightly more even.

That’s why women who experience gout tend to show signs and symptoms after menopause, while men are more likely to develop the condition earlier, usually in their 30s and 50s.
