The man from IJsselstein was initially caught by a witness. He had seen him take things out of the rubble and put them in his pocket. When officers kept an eye on him, they noticed that the man glanced in their direction several times from a distance, a police spokeswoman said. “After a while they approached him and the money was found.”
The 26-year-old was subsequently arrested. A case has been registered against him. According to RTV Utrecht looks at the Public Prosecution Service whether the man may be further prosecuted, but the police spokeswoman cannot confirm that.
Gas pipe explodes
On April 21, the building on the Libra in Bilthoven was heavily damaged by explosions. A gas pipeline was hit during sewer work. Three of the 28 homes were completely swept away. Five firefighters and two officers were injured.
All residents found or received shelter elsewhere after the explosion. They cannot return home for the time being. The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) and the Occupational Health and Safety Service, among others, are investigating the cause of the explosions.
