Debate on Budget Day in the theme of corona and campaign

The House of Representatives is debating today and tomorrow about the cabinet’s plans for next year. This year’s General Political Reflections are seen as the start of the campaign for the House of Representatives elections in March. Political reporter Xander van der Wulp: “The debate will be streamed live for two days and partly broadcast on television. Both coalition parties and opposition parties know that, so it is an excellent opportunity for them to bring themselves and their positions to the attention.”

Today the group chairmen of all parties in the House will speak. PVV leader Geert Wilders is the first speaker as leader of the largest opposition party. Then it is the turn of VVD member Klaas Dijkhoff, the leader of the largest coalition party. Tomorrow Prime Minister Rutte will speak all day.

In contrast to other years, not the entire cabinet is present in the room. In order to keep enough distance in corona time, only the Deputy Prime Ministers De Jonge, Ollongren and Schouten are physically present, plus the line ministers Wopke Hoekstra (Finance), Wouter Koolmees (Social Affairs) and Eric Wiebes (Economic Affairs).
