The showers were accompanied by hailstones with a diameter of 2 to 4 centimeters and strong gusts of wind. In several places the wind reached a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. At various airports, speeds of up to more than 130 kilometers per hour were measured.
Three people died in the province of Ontario and one in Quebec. Two of them died when they were hit by falling trees. A third person died after her boat capsized. No information has been released about the fourth person.
The storm caused damage to buildings and electricity pylons. It can take a few days before all households have power again. There are also reports of overturned cars and roads made impassable due to fallen trees.
