In the game, the player finds himself in the role of Colt. He wakes up with a tiring hangover on the beach of Blackreef Island and doesn’t know which one is beating. It doesn’t take long for Colt to find himself inside the time loop, and whenever he dies, he wakes up again on the same beach at sunrise. But it has one catch, he will wake up here often, because there is a fat reward for it. And not only that, the assassin Julianna is also after his throat. But about that later.

The goal is clear. Get out of the time loop. But how to do it? All you have to do is “just” kill the main eight of the so-called Visionaries, who hold that loop firmly in the reins. The task is to find out about the Visionaries, learn their habits and get rid of them in one game day. To avoid the time limit and play more with the environment, the developers divided the day into the traditional four parts (morning, noon, afternoon and evening).

It would not be Arkane studio if there were no special abilities and various possibilities of solving situations in the game. Colt can hack loopholes, sensors or enemy communications. In doing so, when killing the Visionaries, he gains various abilities, such as teleporting, increasing strength and damage, invisibility, telekinetic throwing with opponents, or the so-called Nexus, where the player combines the fate of several opponents with one. You shoot one in the head, all connections die. In addition, these abilities can be improved by repeatedly killing the Visionaries. In addition, the so-called trinkets can also improve the properties of weapons.

As in Dishonored, the player can use the silent procedure and destroy their targets without any warning. Nevertheless, the game much more encourages players to play more action and aggressively. And yes, the game, like other Arkane titles, has more story endings. So there is nothing to stop you from taking a shotgun or a heavy machine gun and going at the opponents with all the flair.

In order to prevent the player from losing an arsenal of acquired weapons, which are divided into several types, he can so-called infuse them through a local material called Residue, which is found in items from other time loops. If Colt dies, he will leave all the accumulated Residue on Earth.

Here comes Colt’s passive ability, which he will not lose and which allows him to die twice without resetting the loop. Weapons have different rarities and accordingly also special abilities. Compared to the basic ones, which sometimes get stuck, they are definitely a better steamer, so the Residuum is really worth looking for. And not only because of the basic opponents that Colt encounters during the hunt for the Visionaries, but mainly because of the previously mentioned Julianna.

As we have already noted, Julian is after Colt. She speaks to him through a radio or radio. In the offline mode, Julianna is controlled by artificial intelligence. However, if a player connects to the publisher’s servers and turns on public mode, Julianna will be controlled by a foreign player anywhere in the world. After the introductory passage, you can choose in the main menu who the player wants to play for. Whether for Colt and break the loop, or for Julianna, when he will join various players and try to thwart their efforts.

From a technical point of view, nothing can be read about the game. It is powered by developers with a modified idTech engine called the Void engine, which they have already used with the second Dishonored. The musical accompaniment is properly spy and listens well outside the game itself.

If you’re planning to play Deathloop on a PlayStation 5, you’re sure to enjoy support for all the new technologies the PS5 has. This, of course, is the adaptive triggers on the DualSense controller, where each weapon acts differently during firing due to the feedback, as well as jamming triggers. In addition, the game also uses the built-in speaker in the controller when communicating with Julianne, and of course there are more clever vibrations of the new controller.

We honestly don’t remember a bad game from Arkan. It has been a gem after another since the Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. Maybe their games are not among the biggest, but they always have absolutely perfect gameplay with a perfect design of individual levels. In addition, they have added well-written dialogues, which are behind the fun and functional chemistry of the central couple. Colta’s peaking with Julianna could be compared to the great Firewatch dialogues.
