Death Record Due to COVID-19 Breaks, Minister of Health Adds More Bad News

jpnn.com, MOSCOWRussia announced a record 1,239 deaths from COVID-19 in a single day on Wednesday and the highest death toll was reported just days after most regions reopened businesses after a week of closures to contain the spread of the virus.

The government’s COVID-19 task force also reported 38,058 new cases, including 3,927 in the capital Moscow, in the past 24 hours.

Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said in parliament on Wednesday that the oxygen supply of hospitals in Russia’s 12 regions is only sufficient for the next 1-2 days unless it can be refilled.

At the same time, he said, a number of regions are starting to report a decline in cases and vaccinations have paid off because only 3-4 percent of Russians who have been vaccinated are infected.

More than 62 million Russians have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Murashko said. (ant/dil/jpnn)
