Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis was the great hero of the Greek team in the 2-1 victory against England, at Wembley, last Thursday. Hellenic influence was celebrated in homage to George Baldock, A Greek international who was found dead by his swimming pool the night before the game.
Pavlidis remembered the feeling that the team had in that game and he admitted that it was difficult to deal with the feeling.
“Both days were full of ups and downs in terms of emotions. Unfortunately we had to deal with them. It was difficult for the whole team and for all of Greece. We are professionals, we had to play the game, show that we are a team and give our soul to Giorgos. Play for him and his family. It’s more than football”, the Benfica player began by saying at a press conference.
“We had a really good performance and we were certainly happy because we did it for George. We couldn’t show what we felt, because we didn’t even know what we felt. Tomorrow is a new day, let’s put the pieces in order. In the end, that’s life and we have to move on», he said.
