The death of a woman and a child from the Kyffhäuserkreis in an avalanche accident on Saturday in South Tyrol caused great dismay in Thuringia. The 35-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter had been buried by an avalanche on Saturday afternoon on the Teufelsegg slope in the Schnalstal ski area in Italy. In the afternoon, the woman could only be rescued dead by rescue workers; the child was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. It died there in the evening. Another seven-year-old girl who came from Eschweiler in North Rhine-Westphalia was also only recovered dead. In addition, a man and another child were injured in the accident.

The injured woman was a member of the Bundeswehr. A spokesman for the medical services command told MDR THÜRINGEN on Sunday that she had worked as a staff officer in the Bundeswehr barracks in Bad Frankenhausen.
