Death of Daniel Lévi: the funeral will take place this Sunday in Marseille


Died Saturday at the age of 60 from colon cancer, singer Daniel Lévi will be buried this Sunday at the Jewish cemetery Saint-Pierre in Marseille, in the Bouches-du-Rhône. The ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m., announced the artist’s widow, Sandrine Lévi on the official Instagram account of the singer, known for his role as Moïse in the musical “The Ten Commandments”.

Still according to her, the vigil at the Synagogue de la Rose, in Marseille, took place on Saturday evening.

Emmanuel Macron sent his “respectful condolences” to the singer’s wife and his four children. The President of the Republic hailed “a great voice and a beautiful soul of French song”, in a press release this Sunday.

Born in 1961 in Constantine, Algeria, Daniel Lévi was the youngest of a family of seven children and spent his childhood in Lyon. After having studied the piano for about ten years, he began his career in the early 1980s with a first album called “Cocktail”.

But it was with the musical “The Ten Commandments” that the artist enjoyed national success in 2000, notably with the key song “L’Envy d’Aimer”. A few years earlier, in 1993, he recorded “Ce rêve bleu”, the song from the Disney cartoon “Aladdin”, in duet with singer Karine Costa.
