This Saturday June 5, Carole Fredericks should have celebrated her 69th birthday.. But destiny decided otherwise. His family was struck by tragedy June 7, 2001. While the American singer with the golden voice was performing on a stage in Dakar, Senegal, she suffered a devastating heart attack a few hours later. The declaration of his death took place the night that followed. Two days earlier, she celebrated her 49th birthday and thought she still had her whole life ahead of her. This Monday, June 7 will also mark the 20th anniversary of his disappearance.
Carole Fredericks was originally from Springfield, Massachusetts and had always been immersed in the artistic universe. She was the daughter of a big band singer and a pianist. It was in 1979 that she decided to move to Paris to try her luck. If she had started her musical career by being the backing vocalist of her brother, the bluesman Taj Mahal, the sparkling singer had then accompanied the most famous French-speaking artists such as Johnny Hallyday, Serge Gainsbourg, Mylène Farmer, Michel Berger or even Celine Dion.
More than a trio, friends
It was in 1991 that her career had taken off and where she had met with great success. Carole Fredericks then sang alongside Michael Jones and Jean-Jacques Goldman. Their album “Fredericks Goldman Jones” had sold over a million copies. The three singers were more than singing partners, they were real friends. The disappearance of the American singer upset the interpreter ofFly Me. In addition to her talent, Taj Mahal’s sister was a committed woman and did not hesitate to lend her voice for causes close to her heart. She went on tours for The bastards or Amnesty International.
