Radio-Canada has learned that the child has been found at the family home. According to our information, she was severely mutilated.
Burn marks and bruises from a blunt object were reportedly reported by those who answered the 911 call at around 2:30 p.m.
The girl was rushed to the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur in Montreal, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators interview half a dozen witnesses, including the two parents of the little victim, and two other children, a boy and a girl.
For now, the SPL’s communications department is content to confirm that an investigation is underway, without giving further details.
The couple’s other children would not be injured, but the police are in contact with the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ).
The forensic identification service arrived at the scene of the tragedy in the early evening to continue the criminal investigation.
An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the causes of the girl’s death.
No charges have yet been laid.
A disturbing scene
The scene of the drama was difficult for the first responders to see. The four paramedics and police officers who intervened on the scene will be supported by peer helpers, paramedics specially trained to intervene with colleagues who are experiencing psychological shocks. Police officers will be supported by their employee assistance program.
A follow-up will also be carried out by a psychologist.
