A 19-year-old boy died, and a 14-year-old girl is in a serious condition in the hospital in Shumen, after they spent the night in a car with a burning engine in the village of Drumevo. According to unofficial information, the two were engaged. On Wednesday evening, they celebrated the girl’s birthday with a company outside the village. They then left in her fiance’s car. Instead of returning to their homes, the two secluded themselves in the car. The car was stopped next to the fountain in the center of the village. According to the police, they spent between 4 and 5 hours there.
At 7 a.m., a man from Drumevo approached the car, which had been parked for a long time with the engine running. He saw that the driver and his female passenger were unconscious. He called 112. With the help of another person from the village, they managed to unlock the car doors. When the doctors arrived, the boy was already dead. The girl was taken by ambulance to the Shumen hospital in serious condition.
The main version on which the investigators are working is suffocation with the exhaust gases of the car, which was technically defective. The case was reported to the prosecutor’s office. Witnesses are interviewed and expert opinions are appointed. An autopsy will reveal the exact cause of the boy’s death, while medics fight for his fiancee’s life.
“We have information that the car was technically defective – exhaust gases entered the passenger compartment,” said Commissioner Veselin Zahariev, head of the “Investigation” department at the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Shumen. There is no information that the two used drugs.
