Just over 22 million Spaniards had their funeral covered at the end of 2022, which represents 46.3% of the approximately 47.4 million inhabitants that Spain had at the end of last year.
According to the annual report on death insurance prepared by the sector’s employers’ association, Unespa, this product is one of the most contracted in the entire Spanish national territory, along with auto and life insurance.
The province with the highest volume of insured people in relative terms is Cádiz, where 8 out of every 10 residents are covered, followed by Ávila (76%); Badajoz (73%); Ciudad Real (71%) and Cáceres (66%).
On the contrary, the Spanish provinces with the least coverage are Soria (19%); Teruel (20%); Huesca (21%); Balearic Islands (21%) and Navarra (24%).
The households with the highest rates of taking out this insurance are those where a couple lives without minor children and in which at least one of the two is over 65 years of age (57.5%), as well as homes where they live alone. a person aged 65 or older (54.4%).
On the contrary, people under 30 who live alone are the ones who hire this product the least.
The report reveals that the level of insurance increases with age and reaches a maximum level of around 60% from the age of 70, although it also protects 40% of those between 25 and 30 years old, who are covered by their family policy.
