Recent research shows that students comedian at school may be the smartest person among his other friends. The research, published in the journal Humor, says ‘jokesters‘ or the comedian could be ‘The Bookworm’ hiding by his behavior.
Reported from IFL Science, when para scientist studied more than 200 Turkish secondary school students and they found a close relationship between children’s comedic ability and intelligence level.
“We were particularly interested in the quality of humor created by children but evaluated by adults,” explains study leader Professor Ugur Sak.
“Parents and teachers should be aware that if their child or student often makes good quality humor, they are likely to have extraordinary intelligence,” he continued.
Being funny has been considered a sign high intelligence since a long time ago. But there is a difference between child and adult humor.
“While humor is often used for entertainment by adults, children mostly use it to adapt to their peers. Therefore, the nature of humor in adults and children is different,” said the researcher.
Researchers also revealed that after comparing children’s humor skills with their intelligence as measured by the Anadolu Sak Intelligence Scale, there was a high degree of correlation, the researchers wrote.
For the record, researchers mention study It is also closely related to cultural elements. Since this is in Turkey, the results may not necessarily be generalizable globally.
“Certain behaviors that are considered intellectually funny in one culture may not be so intellectually funny in another,” the paper explains. That is, humor reflects cultural norms.
“Since appreciation of humor is shaped by culture… humor skills may correlate differently with intelligence in different cultures. Therefore, exploring the relationship between intelligence and humor ability in different cultural contexts may provide new evidence of their relationship,” the paper concludes.
