DeAndre Jordan will spend little time without a team. As explained by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers are interested in getting his services and are currently favorites to do so; yes, it is unknown if they will claim it from the list of waivers or if they will wait for him to become a free agent.
Jordan, at 33 years old, puts an end to his time with the Lakers. The Los Angeles franchise, with other positions to reinforce, has decided to do without his services to sign another point guard to serve as backup for Russell Westbrook. Along these lines, Shams Charania of The Athletic advances that the chosen one is DJ Augustin.
Returning to the Sixers, finding a center to rest Joel Embiid had become a necessity after the goodbye of Andre Drummond in the transfer of James Harden. Jordan, although with differences, is a player similar to Drummond in that his strength is basically rebounding.
The difference between signing Jordan as a claim or as a free agent is plain and simple economics. The pivot closed a one-year contract and 2.6 million dollars (minimum salary for a veteran) with the Lakers in the summer. If Philadelphia signs him as a free agent instead of claiming him, he’ll save $2.3 million in luxury tax.
