They have already been described as “million graves”: the former SPÖ municipal councilor Gerald Haßler criticized the interest rate swaps of the city of Graz in 2019. These are contracts with which the city secured loans with variable interest rates as a kind of fixed interest rate. The problem from today’s perspective: These swap deals were all concluded before the 2008/09 financial crisis.
