Despite numerous offers, the TFF has – not surprisingly – negotiated a deal with the current rights holder beIN Sports. The Süper Lig will remain exclusively in the beIN Sports portfolio for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. The tender has been canceled!
The new TFF management team around Mehmet Büyükekşi has worked on the next major construction site in Turkish football after the foreigner regulation. The next two seasons (2022/23 and 2023/24) of the Süper Lig will be broadcast on beIN Sports as usual. The decision does not come as a surprise, as numerous bodies and committees resigned from their posts together with Nihat Özdemir. The new names in the TFF working group “Yayın İhale Komisyonu” (Tendering Committee) unanimously stuck to the deal with beIN Sports and unanimously canceled the tender.
Hit the wall
LIGABlatt editor-in-chief Fatih Şenel commented on the canceled award: “Overall, the unsuccessful award process must be classified as extremely complicated, non-transparent and without a ray of hope. Neither Nihat Özdemir nor the new TFF President had reasons such as incentives to hand for more funds or to even find a new financier for the Süper Lig. The Saran Group will still be annoyed. It is an indictment of failure to drive the tender so catastrophically against the wall. The bad start for the 2022/23 season has already started.”
