Deadspin | Reports: RHP Frankie Montas agrees to 2-year, $34 million contract with Mets

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Frankie Montas (47) throws in the first inning of their wild card playoff game against the New York Mets Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Right-hander Frankie Montas has agreed to a two-year, $34 million contract with the New York Mets, multiple media outlets reported Sunday night.

After an appearance in the National League Championship Series, New York is looking to fill out their starting rotation after seeing Sean Manaea, Luis Severino and José Quintana hit free agency.

Montas’ deal is pending corporate approval, and the 31-year-old can opt out of the deal after the 2025 campaign, according to reports.

In 30 starts with the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers last season, Montas went 7-11 with a 4.84 ERA. He pitched 150 2/3 innings during his time with both clubs.

Montas is 44-46 with a 4.09 ERA in 160 career appearances (129 starts) with the Chicago White Sox (2015), Oakland Athletics (2017-22), New York Yankees (2022-23), Reds (2024) and Brewers ( 2024).

The Mets went 89-73 this year and made the postseason through the National League wild card race.
