It concerns a woman over 60 and her 11-year-old grandson, reports Chinese state broadcaster CCTV. They were sucked out of the window, mattress and all. A 60-year-old woman from the same residential building also died when she was blown away by the wind.
Air conditioners blown off facade
This happened in the provincial capital Nanchang, which was the hardest hit. The gusts of wind rose on Sunday. More than 5,000 homes have since been damaged by the extreme weather conditions.
Air conditioners were blown off the facades and more than 2,000 trees were blown down. The highest warning level had been in effect for the region since Tuesday. That last happened in 2013.
China has been hit by extreme weather more often in recent years. 2023 was the hottest year since records began, with heat waves occurring earlier than usual, bringing higher temperatures and occurring in more places.
In addition, the country also recorded the lowest temperature in recent history: in the northeastern Jintao it was no less than 53 degrees below zero in January.
