Deadly Wildfires Ravage Texas and Oklahoma, Threatening to Worsen
Ferocious winds and dry air are expected to worsen the deadly wildfires that have devastated Texas and Oklahoma, already burning through more than 1 million acres of land. The Smokehouse Creek Fire, currently only 3% contained, has become the largest fire on record in Texas, engulfing over 1 million acres. Tragedy Strikes
As a result of these devastating fires, two individuals have tragically lost their lives. Officials in Hutchinson and Hemphill Counties reported the deaths. One victim, Cindy Owens, a truck driver caught in the Smokehouse Creek Fire, attempted to escape but was unable to do so. She suffered severe burns and ultimately passed away. The second victim, Joyce Blankenship, an 83-year-old resident of Stinnett, was unable to escape her home before it was engulfed in flames. Both victims were well-known and beloved members of their communities.

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for the weekend, extending from the Texas Panhandle into the Oklahoma Panhandle and neighboring states.
