Officials prevented a local train from stopping at the nearest station, to prevent the suspects from escaping. Four people suffered gunshot wounds – three were taken to hospital and the fourth died. Shooting took place in three places. Two people have been arrested after a car chase on a highway.
It is not clear what caused the accident. but Sweden has a serious problem with criminal gangs, often linked to the drug trade. There have been numerous shootings and attacks with explosives in the country before.
The southern outskirts of Stockholm are among the worst affected areas. By May, there had been 144 shooting incidents in Sweden, with 52 of them in the Stockholm area. 18 people were killed, 10 in the capital alone.
