Deadly PO Handoyo Bus Accident on Cipali Toll Road: 12 Dead, 7 Injured – Driver Arrested

The PO Handoyo bus accident occurred on the Cipali Toll Road, Purwakarta, West Java. This deadly accident caused 12 people to die and 7 others were injured.

The PO Handoyo bus, number AA 7626 OA, had an accident at Km 72/B Cipali Toll Road, Purwakarta, West Java on Friday (15/12/2023) at around 15.40 WIB. Head of Public Relations of the West Java Regional Police, Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo, said that initially the bus was traveling from Cirebon to Jakarta.

“(The bus) with a total of 20 passengers came from Cirebon towards Jakarta,” said Tompo in his statement to journalists, Friday (15/12/2023).

When he arrived at the scene, the Handoyo bus lost control and hit the guard rail. The bus then overturned until it tilted and crossed the road.

“On the road that curves to the left, it is suspected that the driver lacked anticipation so that the vehicle swerved uncontrollably and hit the guard rail. Furthermore, the vehicle overturned with its left wheels on the road facing south,” he explained.

It is known that the Handoyo bus was carrying 21 people, consisting of 18 passengers, 2 drivers and 1 maid.

2. Number of Victims: 12 Dead, 2 Seriously Injured, 7 Lightly Injured

The deadly Handoyo bus accident on the Cipali toll road, Purwakarta, West Java claimed lives. A total of 12 bus passengers died and 9 other people were injured.

“12 people died, 2 people were seriously injured, and 7 people were slightly injured,” said Purwakarta Police Chief AKBP Edwar Zulkarnain, as reported detikJabarFriday (15/12/2023).

  • Kasdi (63), resident of Purwodadi Village, Tegalrejo District, Magelang Regency.
  • Mashudi (57), resident of Salam Village, Grabag District, Magelang Regency.
  • Yekti Nugrahanti (45), resident of Salam Village, Grabag District, Magelang Regency
  • Adelia (5), daughter of Mashudi and Yekti.
  • Siti Rohyati (57), resident of Ciracas Village, East Jakarta.
  • Siti Munjayana (55), resident of Purwodadi Village, Tegalrejo District, Magelang Regency.
  • Cholimah (68), resident of Bantir Village, Candiroto District, Temanggung Regency.
  • Kholifah (60), resident of Ngadirejo District, Temanggung Regency.
  • Siti Wirnasih (36), resident of Kendal Regency, Central Java.
  • 3. Suspected Cause

    Traffic accident involving the Handoyo bus on the Cipali Toll Road, Purwakarta, West Java. Police suspect the cause of the accident was driver negligence.

    According to Purwakarta Police Chief AKBP Edwar Zulkarnain, the bus had a single accident because the driver could not control the speed of the vehicle. However, the police are still carrying out in-depth investigations to find out for sure about the accident.

    “It is currently suspected that the bus had an accident due to the driver’s negligence,” said Edwar.
