Deadly Landslide Hits Gansu Village in Northwest China, Heatwave Warning Issued in Shanghai

Gansu Emergency Management Bureau Report of a landslide in a village in Gansu Province In northwest China on Monday (July 10), two people were killed, seven injured and two missing. Rescue workers rushed to search for the missing and help the victims. Authorities helped evacuate 336 people, including 76 households, from their homes to temporary shelters.

Meanwhile, China issued a heat wave warning in Shanghai and other cities and provinces, and China Meteorologists issued the latest renewal of the warning yesterday (July 11) with thunderstorms expected in parts of the country.

A heat wave has been hitting northern and eastern China for weeks. including Beijing Shandong and Anhui Temperatures in the heatwave region rose between 35-40 degrees Celsius, and hailstorms and monsoon rains were also generated in other parts of China.

Shanghai is the latest city to issue a Level 2 orange high heat wave warning, out of three in China’s color-coded warning system. Temperatures in Shanghai yesterday hit 37 degrees Celsius (near 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for the first time this year.

As for Beijing, the capital city, as of Monday (July 10), Beijing had 23 consecutive days of extremely high temperatures, breaking a new record for the first time in Beijing’s history. with the longest number of high temperature days

China’s National Meteorological Center warned that Beijing may continue to have high temperatures on July 14-17 and may break new records again.

Shandong and Anhui provinces in eastern China. The orange level 2 heatwave warning issued by Shandong has been issued for the sixth day in a row. and since last June Shandong had an average of 12.9 days of high temperatures, 8.4 more than the same period last year, and Anhui raised its heatwave warning from yellow to orange since Monday. The maximum temperature in Anhui is expected to exceed 35 degrees Celsius.
