Atlanta, United States (CNN) – Several video clips from the Rafah area in the southern Gaza Strip showed a series of strong strikes on Wednesday, including several strikes near the Kuwaiti Hospital.
Journalists in the area said that the explosions were caused by Israeli air strikes and that several people were killed.
The videos, geolocated by CNN, show extensive damage to what appears to be an apartment building.
A mosque near the Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah was also bombed, according to a video clip whose location was determined, in addition to journalists’ testimonies about what happened.
A Reuters video clip from the scene showed people running from the site of one of the raids amidst smoke and dust, and it also showed injured children being transferred to ambulances. A woman told Reuters: “We were just cooking… No one was there except some people who were displaced from the eastern (region).”
The video also showed men running through the rubble in an attempt to rescue people.
Al Jazeera was broadcasting live nearby when missiles were heard in the sky. As people bent down and looked up, a series of powerful explosions followed nearby in quick succession. CNN geolocated the broadcast site.
CNN asked the Israeli army about the targets of any air strikes in the area. The Rafah area is located in the south of the Gaza Strip, and is crowded with displaced people who were asked by Israel to evacuate from different areas of the Strip.
