“The incident occurred when the suspect opened fire at a police patrol and tried to flee the scene,” Jordan’s Directorate of Public Security said.

Three members of law enforcement were injured in the attack. They were taken to hospital in moderate condition.

A large percentage of Jordan’s population of 11.5 million are Palestinians, many with ties to the Jordan River in the neighboring West Bank. According to UNRWA data, there are at least 2.39 million registered Palestinian refugees living in the country.
