The 3 kilogram gas cylinder exploded in a resident’s house on Jalan Tri Jaya III RT 08/07 Number 15 Tebet Barat Village, Tebet, South Jakarta (Jaksel). The Tebet gas cylinder explosion incident killed 2 people and 6 other victims suffered burns.
The Tebet Police Chief, Kompol Chytia, explained that the gas canister exploded at the house of a resident named Lukman Hakim, on Monday (26/6) at around 04.45 WIB. The witness could smell the gas before the explosion.
“According to the testimony of the witness that when the gas will be ignited already smell gas,” said Chytia in her statement, Friday (7/7/2023).
One of the neighbors who was also a victim named Wida Susanto (30), was asked for help by the home owner. Wida then comes to Lukman’s house.
“Wida happened to be a gas worker and was visited at the house (for dmiintain please), then Brother Susanto and Pak Lukman Hakim turned it on,” he said.
However, when the gas was ignited suddenly there was an explosion. The explosion caused a spark which caused the victim Wida to suffer burns.
“It turned out that when it was ignited, an explosion immediately occurred from the 3 kg gas cylinder, due to the explosion which resulted in a fire coming out and burning the victims,” he explained.
Broken House Roof
The explosion not only resulted in injuries and deaths. The explosion damaged the roof of Lukman Hakim and Muhamad Syahil’s house.
“Inflicted damage broken roof and the 2nd floor was not made of broken plywood, and the house belonging to Mr. Muh Syahil (RT 10/07) suffered damage to the roof made of bamboo and collapsed tiles,” he explained.
Not only that, Mrs. Marhamah’s house, which was to the right of Lukman’s house, was damaged.
“The roof of Mrs. Marhamah’s house was destroyed and the 2nd floor was made of plywood which was also broken,” he said.
As a result of this incident, 6 people were injured and 2 people died. The victim named Wida Susanto died on Wednesday (5/7) at RSCM. A day later, the victim Mustofa (7) died at the RSCM.
“The victim died on behalf of Wida Susanto, his body was taken to Banyumas, Central Java. Victim Mustofa’s body was buried at the TPU Menteng Pulo, Tebet,” he said.
