Around 5:40 p.m., residents reported flames and smoke from an apartment on the first floor of the two-story house on Schöneweibergasse.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the house was already engulfed in flames. Even the attic was already on fire.
During the extinguishing work, the rescue workers found a dead person in the affected apartment. According to the current state of investigation, this is a 13-year-old girl living there.

The girl’s 42-year-old father had to be taken to a special clinic with severe burn injuries. The girl’s 61-year-old grandmother was also seriously injured.
A 49-year-old man suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation. Other people were not injured.
During the night, the roof skin of the house was removed in order to be able to completely extinguish the fire.

The home is uninhabitable due to the fire. Property damage of several hundred thousand euros is assumed.
The cause of the fire could not be determined with certainty because the house is not yet accessible. However, initial indications point to incorrect operation when handling a gas bottle.
The Darmstadt professional fire brigade, the voluntary fire brigades from Griesheim, Pfungstadt, Babenhausen and Wolfskehlen were deployed with more than 80 emergency services and around 30 rescue and supply workers. The psychosocial care service and several patrol cars from the Darmstadt-Dieburg police were also on site.

The injuries suffered by the girl’s 42-year-old father in the house fire in Schöneweibergasse (Griesheim) on Sunday afternoon were so serious that he died in the hospital on Monday evening.
