A fire broke out on the 21st local time at an Italian restaurant famous for its “flaming pizza” in Madrid, Spain, killing two people and injuring 12 others, local media reported.
According to Spanish and Argentinian media, the restaurant was destroyed by a large fire, and six of the injured were said to be in a very critical condition.
Witnesses said that the flames spread to the ceiling and walls immediately after restaurant workers lit the pizza at around 10:45 p.m. on the same day. Initial investigations by Spanish authorities showed that the flames of the ‘burning pizza’ spread to the plastic harmony and quickly spread. It turned out to be a big fire.
In particular, it was investigated that a fire broke out near the front door, the only entry and exit point, and it was found that about 30 customers and staff in the restaurant had great difficulty escaping.
The two killed were a customer in his 40s and a restaurant employee who started working a week ago. Spanish authorities are investigating whether the restaurant used materials with poor flame retardancy.
