Deadly Explosions at LPG Filling Station in Southern Romania: Updates, Casualties, and Response

At least one person has been killed in two explosions at an LPG filling station in southern Romania. 46 people were also injured, including many firefighters.

The accident happened Friday evening in the town of Crevedia. It is located about 30 kilometers from the capital Bucharest.

Romanian media report that a fire broke out at the LPG station on Friday evening. This was followed by a first explosion, which killed one person. The fire then spread to two tanks and a house.

The emergency services turned out en masse and cordoned off an area of ​​700 meters. Roads in the area were also closed.

After about two hours, a second and much larger explosion occurred. In doing so, according to the news agency Reuters 26 firefighters injured.

Marcel Ciolacu, Romania’s prime minister, said four patients are likely to be moved to hospitals in Italy and Belgium for their injuries.
