Deadly East Boston accident leaves hundreds without power – NBC New England

A car split in half after crashing into a utility pole in East Boston Wednesday night.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on McClellan Highway near Addison Street. A woman is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Boston Police Department.

Nearly 800 people were still without power Thursday morning, according to Eversource.

Part of Route 1A was still closed Thursday morning after the accident. The south side was closed but the north side was passable.

The car broke in two. Another car suffered damage to the front end. The accident remains under investigation.
