Deadly Earthquake Strikes Morocco, Leaving Hundreds Dead and Injured

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – An earthquake struck Morocco at approximately 11 p.m. local time, Friday, claiming hundreds of lives. Below we review the latest developments for you:

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior announced, on Saturday, that the death toll from the earthquake that struck the country on Friday evening had risen to 820 dead and 672 injured, noting that 205 people were in critical condition as of 10 a.m. local time, according to what was reported by the Moroccan government channel Al Oula.

– The deadly earthquake that struck Morocco with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale on Friday night is the worst the country has witnessed in years, with a total death toll of 961, including 632 dead and 329 injured, according to official figures issued.

Morocco has not witnessed a similar disaster since 2004, when a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the coastal city of Al Hoceima, while the worst earthquake the country has witnessed in modern times was in 1960 near the western city of Agadir and killed at least 12,000 people.
