For the mother’s colleagues from Altamonte Springs, Florida, it must have been the shock of their lives: Shamaya Lynn was killed in the middle of a video conference, reported the Orlando Sentinel.
A colleague told the police that he saw a diaper-wearing child jumping around on a bed in the background of the video conversation. Suddenly a loud noise – the child began to cry.
Then traumatic scenes played out in front of the screen: Lynn’s head moved backwards, then forwards. It looked like she had blood on her face, the colleague reported. Then she was no longer to be seen.

The colleague did not know her exact address, but still called the police immediately. But only a few minutes later the child’s father, Veondre Avery, finally came home.
He found Lynn covered in blood, slumped in her chair. According to the affidavit, Avery called the authorities and tried to resuscitate his girlfriend.

The murder weapon belonged to Avery himself. The father had hidden the loaded pistol in a “Paw Patrol” backpack – not even a lock or the like secured the weapon.
He kept the backpack with the cartoon dogs on it next to the bed. Avery had a total of four weapons.
When investigators asked if his child knew anything about pistols, the 22-year-old admitted that his son was playing with toy guns.
The two-year-old was taken to a welfare center by a child protection officer. An investigator stressed that it was the father’s responsibility to “prevent the children from accessing his weapons”.
“[Avery] has disregarded this responsibility and added his culpable negligence to the acts [des Kleinkindes] too young to show malicious intent, “read the end of the affidavit.
