NEW YORK.- A Parking structure in the Lower Manahttan area of New York collapsed at least partially and caused one dead and injuredThe authorities reported this Tuesday. There were six people at the scene at the time of the accident.
According to the first reconstructions, the floors of the three-story building collapsed around 4:15 p.m. (local time) and as a consequence all the cars that were parked at that moment fell.
Some people stayed trapped inside the building at 57 Ann Street in the financial district, between Nassau and William streets, New York City Councilman Christopher Marte said on Twitter. Fire Department officials confirmed that there are people injured and reports of people trapped, CBS New York reported.
The New York Police Department and the mayor’s office advised people via Twitter to stay away from the area. Engineers from the New York City Department of Buildings were on site to perform a structural stability inspection of the building.
Images circulating on social media show wrecked cars and debris as people are heard screaming from inside.
The Mayor of New York, Eric Adamswas heading to the scene of the collapsed parking lot, his office reported.
