A few days ago, the Mycological Expert Prevention Technicians of Ulss 2 Marca Trevigiana were alerted for a mycological consultation by the Emergency Department of the Vittorio Veneto hospital, due to a suspected intoxication due to the consumption of mushrooms.
The two patients involved, mother and son, had gone to the Vittoria emergency room during the morning with gastrointestinal symptoms attributable to the consumption of mushrooms collected the day before. Upon macroscopic verification, mycologists distinctly recognized among the species collected‘Amanita Phalloides, a poisonous mushroom-deadly due to the high content of amatoxineresponsible for serious poisoning. Its consumption can cost your life.
Mother and son were hospitalized for liver failure. Currently, the man’s health conditions are clearly improving, while the woman is still hospitalized in Conegliano hospital in intensive care, with a reserved prognosis.

Given the abundant growth of the Amanita Phalloides in the summer and autumn periods, even in the plains, in order to avoid poisoning, it emerges how important it is, if not indispensable, to have all the mushrooms collected checked before consumption, even if you consider yourself to be an expert collector.
The checks on the edibility of fresh mushrooms collected by private citizens proposed by Ulss 2 Marca Trevigiana are free and will continue until the end of the harvesting season. They are carried out in the three Districts of the Company by 12 Mycological Experts from the Prevention Department, at the following times: Treviso District: at the Food Hygiene and Nutrition Service, La Madonnina headquarters in via Castellana 2 in Treviso, from Monday to Friday from 12.30 to 1pm.
