Guest 1: Good morning, today we bring you an exclusive interview with the head of the Municipality of Córdoba’s Department of Government, Inspection, and Urban Mobility Control, Rodrigo Fernández. Thank you for joining us, Mr. Fernández. Can you tell us more about this decision to extend the validity of driver’s licenses in the face of the pandemic?
Guest 2: Hi, everyone! I’m María Elena Gómez, a member of the Municipal Workers and Employees Union (SUOEM). Thank you for having me here.
Interviewer: With pleasure. Let’s start with María Elena. Can you explain your interpretation of the reasons that led the municipality to extend driver’s licenses?
María Elena Gómez: Well, as you mentioned in your introduction, there have been ongoing assemblies and protests by our union against the municipality’s management decisions. This has caused disruptions in the normal functioning of various departments, including those responsible for issuing driver’s licenses. Our union has been advocating for better working conditions, salaries, and job security for our members. We believe that the extension of licenses is a temporary measure to address the current situation and alleviate some of the frustrations faced by the public due to the limitations in the services provided by our offices.
Interviewer: And now, Mr. Fernández, can you give us more details about the practical aspects of how drivers can benefit from this extension?
Rodrigo Fernández: Yes, of course. Drivers whose licenses expire between October 21 and December 31, 2024, now have until January 1, 2025, to renew them. They can do so by visiting our Community Participation Centers (CPCs) or using our Digital Neighbor platform. We have also enabled additional in-person shifts and online shifts to ensure a smooth renewal process. The necessary documentation remains the same: a national ID, the expired or expiring license, and a recent physical fitness exam, if required. We understand that these administrative procedures can be burdensome, and this extension aims to make the process more accessible and convenient for everyone.
Interviewer: That’s great to hear. Mr. Fernández,
