Deadline extended for company in charge of works on El Cobre Highway – 2024-08-05 04:02:38

The Regional Directorate of Roads of the Ministry of Public Works of the O’Higgins region reported that the contract of the company IMACO has been extended for the completion of the works on Route H-27, “Carretera El Cobre”.
In this way, the project that connects the communes of Rancagua and Machalí will see its completion deadline extended for an additional period of 150 days, that is, until December of this year.

In this regard, the regional director of the organization, Maurice Dintrans, said that “the extension of the contract is a necessary decision to ensure that the works flow with the technical rigor required and, above all, to safeguard public investment. Our priority is always the road safety of those who travel on this route, so we are focused on moving forward so that the works are completed in a good manner for the benefit of the community.”

He added that “We understand the importance of the El Cobre Highway for those who travel on the route daily and we regret the inconvenience that these delays have caused. We are working in close coordination with IMACO, the Regional Government, the Municipalities of Rancagua and Machalí, the Seremi of Transport and the UOCT, as well as other entities involved so that the works are completed in the shortest possible time and with the highest standards of quality and road safety.”

It should be noted that according to the IMACO company’s schedule, the work will focus on critical points of the project, such as removal of concrete pavements, excavation of land for drainage works (crossings and drains), concrete pavement for ramps at the Bombero Villalobos and San Joaquín de Los Mayos intersection, and sidewalk work on the road, among other works.

Finally, Maurice Dintrans stressed that the CGE and the telecommunications companies continue to develop their work in order to make the relevant changes to services. “This is perhaps one of the most critical tasks of the project, as it involves coordination with actors outside the project, but with a high impact on its progress. For this reason, we are constantly monitoring the progress of the companies,” he concluded.

The basics

According to Dintrans, the extension of the deadline is based on a series of factors that have prevented the normal development of the works, among which the following stand out:

CGE Delays: The works of the General Electricity Company began with a delay due to the need to update the project, affecting the start of telecommunications works, since they depend on the installation of definitive poles and electrical networks.

Coordination and Traffic Detours: The execution of paving works is conditioned by traffic detours, regulated by the UOCT, which requires greater coordination to not greatly affect the vehicular flow, especially at the intersection of Av. Bombero Villalobos.

Landscaping Project Update: A landscaping update in accordance with current regulations was requested from the IMACO Company, which was initially going to be in charge, but the project was sent to the Municipality of Rancagua, who will carry out the new landscaping design, in addition to the irrigation project.

High Vehicular Flow: The high traffic in areas near schools and medical centers requires work to be carried out in reduced sections, causing significant delays in the execution of the project.
