Deadliest Night in Gaza: Over 70 Civilians Killed in Missile Attack, Israeli Army Investigating

The Gaza Strip authorities claim that last night has become one of the bloodiest in recent times. According to their information, the missile attack carried out in the middle of the night has claimed the lives of more than 70 civilians. A total of 78 people, including women and children, have died in various attacks last night.

The Israeli army says in a statement to the media that it is currently investigating in depth what happened last night. An army spokesman says Israeli forces are doing their best to adhere to international rules and minimize civilian casualties, even as members of the terror group Hamas continue to operate from civilian areas.

In total, according to estimates by the Gaza authorities, this conflict has claimed the lives of more than 20,400 Gazans. Thousands more are likely buried under the rubble of houses. On the other hand, the number of injured reaches several tens of thousands.

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Philip Lazzarini, has warned that the people of Gaza are currently facing a famine they have never experienced before.

Lazzarini said it was a man-made famine because too little humanitarian aid was reaching the region. On Sunday, only four trucks with humanitarian aid, totaling 33 tons of food, reached Gaza. Qatar has also delivered another plane of humanitarian aid to Egypt for the Palestinians.

The Israeli army, on the other hand, has announced that 10 of its soldiers died on Sunday. The day before, five military personnel have died.

This is the highest number of fallen Israeli soldiers since the beginning of November. Therefore, a total of around 150 soldiers have been killed.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that this war requires heavy sacrifices of soldiers, but they have no choice but to continue.

Also, information about the peace talks in Egypt appears in the Israeli media. Both the leadership of the “Hamas” group and representatives of Israel are currently there. According to the plan proposed by Egypt, Hamas and its allies could gradually release prisoners, while Israel would stop attacks and withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip. However, Israeli officials said they were only willing to talk about a temporary ceasefire, not a complete end to the operation.

Israel’s Haaretz newspaper said that at first glance, the plan looks like a formula that both sides will be happy to reject.

CONTEXT:

Terrorists of the Palestinian Islamist group “Hamas” launched a surprise attack from the Gaza Strip on the morning of October 7. About 1,400 Israelis, mostly civilians, were killed in the massacre. Hamas militants also captured more than 240 people and took them to the Gaza Strip.

Israel declared martial law in the country and launched extensive air and artillery strikes against Hamas targets in the group’s controlled Gaza Strip. Ground forces are also involved in the fighting. For several weeks, Israel also enforced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip, cutting off electricity and water supplies to the territory and limiting humanitarian aid deliveries.

At least 1.1 million people have been internally displaced in the Gaza Strip since early October. A large number have gone to the south of the territory, many are seeking refuge in hospitals. During the conflict, at least 100 UN staff were also killed, as well as around 50 journalists.

Israel says fighting in the Gaza Strip will continue until the Hamas terrorist group is completely destroyed, and blames Hamas for hiding behind a shield of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the international community has repeatedly called on Israel to avoid civilian casualties as much as possible and to introduce humanitarian pauses in the Gaza Strip.
