Dead woman in Vienna-Floridsdorf: Homeless suspect also said to be 74 years old

Journalist’s note

Suspect arrested near crime scene after killing woman

Another woman may have been killed in Austria. A 31-year-old woman was found yesterday in her apartment in Vienna-Floridsdorf. The suspect, a homeless Polish man, is also allegedly responsible for the murder of a 74-year-old former pharmacist.

Two out of three homicides that occurred in Vienna in 2023 should have been clarified. As announced by the police at a press conference on Monday, a 50-year-old homeless Polish man was arrested after allegedly killing both a 31-year-old mother of two and a former pharmacist (74). As Lieutenant Colonel Dietmar Berger said, there is no discernible motive. “It appears to have been arbitrary acts,” Berger said.

The reporter pointed to suspicion in Vienna

Police traced the man through a tip from reporters that they had spotted a suspect at the second crime scene. By evaluating the traces of DNA, the man could then be transferred. An interrogation of the suspect failed because he was so aggressive towards the police that special unit WEGA had to be called in.
