Dead Space 4: EA’s Rejection leaves Fans in the Dark
The gaming world was abuzz earlier this year when news broke that a pitch for Dead Space 4, submitted by the original creators of the seminal horror franchise, had been rejected by Electronic Arts (EA). This news comes as a surprise to many, especially considering the recent success of the Dead Space remake.
The story takes an captivating turn when considering the recent release of The Callisto Protocol. Developed by Striking Distance Studios, led by original dead Space creator Glen Schofield, the game shared visual similarities with the Dead Space series but ultimately fell short of sales expectations. This led to significant layoffs at Striking Distance, including Schofield himself.
Recently, in an appearance on the Dan Allen Gaming channel, Schofield reunited with Brett Robbins (creative director on the 2008 Dead Space) and Christopher Stone (animation director). The trio revealed they had developed a compelling concept for Dead Space 4, but EA ultimately declined the proposal. Schofield described the rejection as “respectful,” stating, “Well, we didn’t go too deep, they just said no, we’re not interested right now, we appreciate it, blah blah blah, you know, we knew who to talk to, so we didn’t discuss it further and we respect their opinion., you know, they know their numbers and what they have to ship and so on.”
While the team acknowledged EA’s decision, they haven’t entirely abandoned hope. Stone offered insight into the current climate of the gaming industry, commenting, “The industry is in a weird place right now. people are really not willing to take risks on things, so you have to know, take it with a grain of salt and who knows, maybe one day, I think we all enjoy doing that.” Schofield added simply, “Yes, we have some ideas.”
The future of the Dead Space franchise remains uncertain. While EA’s rejection of this particular pitch is disappointing for fans, the creators’ continued interest and innovative ideas leave a glimmer of hope for a potential Dead Space 4 in the future. Onyl time will tell if this iconic horror series will continue its terrifying journey.

Senior Editor: So, it seems EA has rejected a pitch for *Dead Space 4* from the original creators. This news came as a shock to many, especially after the success of the *Dead Space* remake. What are your thoughts on this decision?
[Guest Name]: This is definitely a surprising turn of events. The success of the remake showed there’s still a huge audience for *Dead Space*. I think EA’s decision likely comes down to a few factors. Firstly, the gaming industry is incredibly risk-averse right now. Publishers want guaranteed hits, and sequels, especially to older franchises, can be a gamble. secondly, the recent underperformance of *The Callisto Protocol*, led by *Dead Space* creator Glen Schofield, might have made EA hesitant about greenlighting another space horror game, even with the original team behind it. Senior Editor: The creators have expressed that while they respect EA’s decision, they haven’t given up hope.Do you think *Dead Space 4* still has a chance?
[Guest Name]: It’s definitely tough to say. EA has a pattern of reviving dormant IPs when the time feels right. It’s possible they’re simply waiting to see how the market responds to *The Callisto Protocol* and other space horror games before committing to another *Dead space*.
