The emergency services are on site and the police are working on technical and tactical investigative steps, the Eastern police district announced on Twitter at 09.43 on Sunday.
The person was found dead in the water at Spjærøy, which is one of the four large islands in Hvaler municipality.
– The dead man was taken out of the water and examined. Witnesses are being questioned and notification of relatives is underway, the police write.
The emergency services are still working on the spot, but the police currently have little information about the death. They do not currently want to comment on how the person was found, or who alerted the police.
– So far, it is only what has been posted on Twitter that we can go out with. We are still working on site, but we will provide more information when we know more, says on-duty lawyer Laila Hegard in the Eastern police district to NRK.
NRK has been in contact with the rescue boat Horn Rescue, which is stationed on Kirkøy, but they have not assisted in the case.
Spjærøy is one of the four large islands on Hvaler.
