It quickly became clear that no permission was requested from the band to use the iconic outfit. Their singer Jello Biafra claimed the theft and called Viktor Orbán a wannabe dictator and an armchair fascist. Now the other two founders, Dead Kennedys, are still active members today, guitarist East Bay Ray and bassist Klaus Flouride. sent his reaction to the paper.
East Bay Ray said:
“No, this picture was stolen from the Dead Kennedys and photographer f-Stop Fitzgerald by people from the crazy right-wing Orbán camp in power. If they steal from us, they will undoubtedly steal from the Hungarian people as well. For example, food to avoid poisoning. AI content should be labeled whose work has been tapped for the ingredients.”
And Klaus Flouride sent this message:
“I fully agree with the statements of Biafra and Ray. There is nothing good and everything bad about Orbán and his cruel politics. We support his opposition and are outraged that he chose to plagiarize the f-stop Fitzgerald images. We wanted nothing to do with that, period.”
