Dead Island 2 It is already on sale on consoles and PC and has been analyzed in Vandal. After a first comparison between versions, Digital Foundry has done his usual analysis of performance on consoles and his conclusions are quite positive in all systems, including the previous generation.
The open world zombie game uses Unreal Engine 4, although the developer Dambusters has added some technical features for the occasion, such as the FLESH Engine or Fully Locational Evisceration System for Humanoids for the gore system, which simulates the physics of dismembered bodies, clothing, muscles, and skeletons. This achieves some realistic and scary sceneswhich undoubtedly makes it one of the most striking visual aspects of Dead Island 2.
Since the game started many years ago, it has been designed and optimized for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but with several performance improvements for the current generation. That means that while it doesn’t exploit PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, performance is good on all consoles.
technical data
In the case of Xbox One, runs at 1600×900 resolution with 30 fps target, which he gets most of the time except for a few slight dips. “It’s a surprisingly smooth experience that shows there’s a lot of optimization going on, with no sign of dynamic resolution.” In PlayStation 4 features native 1920×1080 resolution and also a 30fps target, although the falls in certain places are more visible. In the cases of Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, the same graphic elements are used in textures, shadows and effects, but the resolution goes up to 2560×1440. The 30 fps is achieved almost perfectly in these models.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S show improvements in the quality of shadows and there is environmental animation for the trees, but the leap is achieved in performance. PlayStation 5 runs at 3072×1728 with “near perfect” 60 fps, while Xbox Series X uses the same resolution although it drops a little more in framerate when using elemental attacks. Xbox Series S has more difficulties to maintain 60 fps -it goes down to 50 on occasion- with a resolucin de 1920×1080.
The current generation also benefits from reduced loading times. PS4 takes 76 seconds to load the Halperin Hotel, while PS5 takes 7 seconds. “Comparing the seven console versions of Dead Island 2, there is a clear advantage in PS5 and Series X with 60 fps, fast uploads, better resolutions and higher settings. What is surprising, however, is well polished that is in the previous consoleslimited to 30 fps but other than that, very competent performance.”
