Dead Island 2: a playable version of 2015 surfaces – News

The development of Dead Island 2 is anything but a long, calm river: announced at E3 2014, the title was successively passed into the hands of Techland (Dying Light), Yager (Spec Ops The Line) and Sumo Digital. It was finally Dambuster Studios, a subsidiary of Deep Silver, which recovered the project in August 2019. While we are waiting for its news, an old version of the open world action game is circulating on the internet.

The gameplay videos of Dead island 2 flourish on YouTube in recent days, and for good reason: a playable version dating from June 2015 has been posted on 4chan. It is therefore the work of the developers of Yager that we discover here. The German studio, now focused on free-to-play online games (Dreadnought, The Cycle), had been excluded from the project by Deep Silver in July 2015, losing almost three years of development. “The team worked with enthusiasm to make Dead Island 2 a very high quality game. However, the respective visions of Yager and Deep Silver disagreed, hence the decision that was made”announced Yager at the time.

Dead Island 2 is now in an unknown state. Last August, three years after the recovery of its development by Sumo Digital and a total absence of news, THQ Nordic (parent company of Deep Silver) announced in a financial statement that the game was transferred to Dambuster Studios (Homefront: The Revolution). It seems to be heading towards the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, as suggested by a recent job offer.
