Dead in fire in Russian Defense building where missiles are developed

At least five people have died in a large fire in a building of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian state news agency Tass reported. The building, where missiles and missile defense systems are being developed, is in Tver, about 165 kilometers northwest of Moscow on the road from Moscow to Saint Petersburg.

Video images show thick black clouds of smoke emanating from the research institute of the Russian Air and Space Force. People who were in the building allegedly jumped from the window from the top floor to escape the fire. About thirty people were said to have been injured. Hundreds of firefighters and a helicopter are involved in putting out the fire.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a defect in the electrical wiring, Tass reports. The institute is also said to have developed weapons that Russia uses in the war against Ukraine, such as Iskander and S-400 missiles.
