This afternoon around 1 pm a heavy fire broke out in the chalet. The fire brigade arrived and a fatal victim was found in the chalet during the firefighting. The Polish man and woman from Nieuwpoort had apparently fled through the fields. Dedecker saw them walking from his house and informed the local police. The duo eventually waited for them at the edge of the field to handcuff them. Both persons are interrogated about what exactly happened. The victim has not yet been identified.
In any case, the duo left the victim in the fire, which amounts to culpable negligence. It is still too early to speak of murder, although that may also be possible. The place is currently being seized by the police and the prosecutor’s office. A fire expert will probably be on site to find out the cause of the fire. There was also a kerosene heater in the chalet and possibly the fire started.
