In the northern Syrian city of al-Bab, several people were killed when a car bomb exploded in a busy place. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights estimates 18 people have died.
Most of the victims are civilians. The local aid organization White Helmets says that at least 82 people have been injured. There is also a lot of damage to buildings.
Responsibility for the attack has not yet been claimed. The Islamic State terrorist organization has committed more attacks in the city since it has been controlled by Turkey.
Al-Bab is located northeast of Aleppo, not far from the Turkish border. Moderate Syrian rebels captured the city in 2017 with support from the Turkish army from Islamic State. It was one of the last IS strongholds in western Syria.
